As we mentioned last month, singer Akon was due back in court today on charges of harassment and endangering the welfare of a minor.
Remember, in June of 2007 Akon threw a 15 year-old concertgoer off the stage in a misguided display of machismo.
Well, today the judge decided that Akon will stand trial in December.
He’s likely to face up to one year and 15 days in jail if convicted.
He might just pay up and settle out of court if his odds of going to jail are great.
The victim, now 16, also appeared at court today with his parents. The kid and his mom declined to comment, but his dad did say, “We didn’t expect this to happen. We’ll see.”
As for Akon, his people have issued their own statement.
It says, “We are pleased that Judge Epstein adjourned the case to a date certain for either a trial or a negotiated resolution. Akon looks forward to putting this incident behind him, and in the meantime he will continue to meet every requirement set forth by the Court.”
Akon is due back in court on December 1st if they don’t settle before.
He’ll settle!

Akon is getting one more month as a free man.
The criminal case against the singer has just been adjourned today until next month, on August 6th.
The case stems from last year’s incident when a crazed Akon threw a 15 year-old fan off stage at the 2007 KFEST concert in June.
In December of last year, Akon plead not guilty to charges of second-degree harassment and endangering the welfare of a minor.
Currently, he could face 1 year and 15 days in jail if he gets convicted.
As for the boy’s mother, Patricia Smith, she attended the case hearing this morning and called it “pretty typical.”
She adds, “People can just hang in there long enough until the case goes in their favor.”
True.
Do U think Akon should be held accountable?

Looks like hip hop ‘bad boy’ Akon has been blowing a lot of smoke up our asses.
The Smoking Gun has unearthed police, court and corrections records that prove the multi-platinum musician ‘created a fictionalized backstory that serves as the narrative anchor for his recorded tales of isolation, violence, woe, and regret. Akon has overdubbed his biography with the kind of grit and menace that he apparently believes music consumers desire from their hip-hop stars.’
Liar liar pants on fire!
So, there was no conviction and he wasn’t ‘locked up’ between 1999 and 2002.
Duped by marketing again, kids!
The Smoking Gun also expresses shock that the media, and especially the music press, failed to take ‘Kon to task on his claim before they did!
Akon’s manager declined the offer to comment on the exaggerated, embellished, and/or wholly fabricated claims SG discovered. His record rep failed to get in touch before the story went to press.
We’re disappointed but not shocked.
C’mon…we live in a world where we have to ask if what we’re watching on TV is reality or ‘real’ reality!

Once upon a time, we didn’t think of Michael Jackson as a freak or a potential pedophile.
Back in the day, he was one of the best musicians of all time. Way back in the day!
Now, MJ has re-recorded Thriller, the best selling album of all time, for its 25th anniversary with some “contemporary” artists.
Some of the songs are hit or miss, but Akon’s take on Wannabe Startin’ Something is KILLER.
Enjoy it below!

Akon for hottest mug shot!
The rapper was booked on Monday in upstate New York for charges that he was physically violent towards a fan at a concert.
There was no humping, but he did throw the kid off the stage.
He’s sorry. He wrote a song apologizing. But he’s still pleading not guilty!
