Al Gore Responds

algore2.jpg

We told y’all earlier that former vice president Al Gore seemed a little two faced when it was revealed by the Tennessee Center for Policy Research that the former Vice President’s home energy use has risen by more than 10% over the past year.

Mr. Gore’s spokesperson reached out to us to set the record straight.

Here’s what she said:

I had the chance to read your blog today and wanted to take a chance to
clear the record:

1. The Gores undertook a three plus year renovation that concluded in
November 2007 with the issuance, in November 2007 of Gold LEED (Leadership
in Energy and Environmental Design) from the US Green Building Council.

2. As part of this renovation, the Gores have:
-Installed a geothermal system for heating, cooling and hot water
-Installed 33 solar panels
-Completely retrofitted their appliances, windows, ductwork, insulation, and
lighting.

3. Since the renovations were complete, the Gores have saved 40 percent on
their site energy use (which is a combination of electricity and natural gas
bills–the two major sources of global warming gases).

4. The Gores also purchase their electricity, through their utility, from
the Green PowerSwitch program–which means that their electricity come from
solar, wind and methane gas.

So, in summary, the Gores have: made their home more energy efficient, the
produce electricity from renewable power (solar, geothermal) and they
purchase renewable power. No one is perfect, but they are doing their part.

Finally, the Gores are also donating a substantial amount of their personal
time to educate the public about the climate crisis as well as donating the
proceeds of their work to charity. They have donated the proceeds of the
Nobel Peace Prize, “An Inconvenient Truth” (the book and film), and Mrs.
Gore’s photography to the Alliance for Climate Protection and The Climate
Project.

And there you have it.

Thoughts?

The View From the Right

algore.jpg

John Coleman, the founder of the Weather Channel who now works as an on-camera weatherman in San Diego, California,
spoke out last week to say that Al Gore and the United Nations’ global warming claims are a bunch of baloney.

From founder of a network to weatherman? Kinda sounds like a step down to us!

Maybe he made loads of money from the sale of the channel and just really likes weather reporting?

You can click here to read Coleman’s diatribe.

However, in re. Coleman’s claims — are they truly objective counter points to Gore’s Inconvenient Truth.

Coleman’s claims reeked ‘Republican-right’ arguments to ‘Democrat-left’ Gore’s assertions (i.e. Coleman appears to support flinging the environmentalists out of the way to get at America’s oil sources and build more oil refineries across the land). Plus, he gave a shout out to Fox News and Rush Limbaugh for sharing his P.O.V. with the masses.

Are his assertions that Gore and the UN manipulated their scientific data to advance the global warming theory right on?

The 9,000 scientists he says signed a petition refuting the global warming claims — are they totally free from any influence from the oil industry?

Can we really pump shit loads of CO2 in the air and it not hurt us, like Coleman argues?

Are there objective ‘non-partisan’ voices out there on the issue?

Two Faced???

Talk about hypocrisy!

Hardcore environmentalist and the man behind An Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore, is apparently not following what he preaches.

Gore has taken steps this past year to make his Tennessee home more energy-efficient. However, it looks like the OPPOSITE took place.

According to the Tennessee Center for Policy Research, Gore’s home energy use has risen by more than 10% over the past year!

The amount of energy used in his home during the past year could have powered about 232 homes in the US for an entire month!

Drew Johnson, President of the Tennessee Center for Policy Research, says “A man’s commitment to his beliefs is best measured by what he does behind the closed doors of his own home. Al Gore is a hypocrite and a fraud when it comes to his commitment to the environment, judging by his home energy consumption.”

Shortly after the Tennessee Center for Policy Research first exposed Gore’s home energy use, the former VP tried to quickly make changes to his home energy consumption.

Gore installed a geothermal system, solar panels, replaced the home’s ductwork and windows, and even added energy efficient light-bulbs.

However, his new and energy efficient looking house is now waisting even more power.

How is that possible????

Gore was originally burning up an average of 17,768 kWh per month, which is 1,638 kWh more energy per month than before the renovations. The energy consumption costs him $16,533.

According to the Energy Information Administration, the average American household consumes only 11,040 kWh in an entire year. That’s over 6,000 kWh less than Gores uses in a month!

TCPR President Johnson, added, “Actions speak louder than words, and Gore’s actions prove that he views climate change not as a serious problem, but as a money-making opportunity. Gore is exploiting the public’s concern about the environment to line his pockets and enhance his profile.”

The reason for those comments?

When the film An Inconvenient Truth was released in 2007, Gore won an Academy Award for best documentary feature. He also won a Grammy, an Oscar, and the Nobel Peace Prize.

It seems Gore’s made quite a lot of money promoting for a greener environment.

He made an estimated extra $100 million last year.

What do U think Al Gore should do about his extreme energy use?

Everybody loves Al Gore. And now, he’s just been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Congrats!
