Leonardo DiCaprio, Jodie Foster, Chris Rock and Will Ferrell dug deep and paid the $28.5K to attend the Barbara Streisand-led fundraiser for Barack Obama in LA on Tuesday.

According to a new report, Obama opened up and shared his feeling about the ‘concerns’ people have had about the closeness of the race to the White House:

“A lot of you, just in conversations while we were in the photo lines, had all sorts of suggestions… And a lot of people have gotten nervous and concerned. Why is this as close as it is? And what’s going on?” The Illinois senator said that the race was always going to be a hard-fought contest because he represented a “leap” for voters, especially when running against John McCain, a “genuine hero” with a “compelling biography.” Obama said that there was “enormous resistance … because people have been fed cynicism for a long time” but he said that he remained “confident about winning because I’ve looked at John McCain, I’ve looked at Sarah Palin, I’ve looked at their agenda, and they don’t have one.”

Barack is so diplomatic!

Voting Obama in November? In Los Angeles this evening? Got $28,500 to throw around?

Well then you can mosey on over to Beverly Hills for a fundraiser for Barack as only Hollywood can do it.

The evening starts with dinner at a Beverly Hills mansion followed by a reception at the Beverly Wilshire hotel, where Barbara Streisand, an ardent Democratic supporter, will perform. Folk singer Ben Harper is also slated to play.

Fancy fancy!

Obama’s aides are mum on the exact number of attendees expected, as well as which stars are on the high-priced guest list.

But we do know that about 250 people are expected to dinner and that 900 are expected to see the Funny Girl sing.

Together the events are estimated to raise 9 million dollars, more than any candidate has raised in a single day.

In Florida on Monday McCain hosted his own buffet dinner at Miami’s InterContinental hotel, culminating in 26.2 million dollars for McCain in Florida to date. In August, McCain experienced his best funraising thus far with 47 million dollars. But, since he accepted public funding, his general election campaign spending is limited to 84 million dollars.

Obama, on the other hand, raised a record-breaking 66 million dollars in August. He opted out of public funds, making this one of the most costly election races yet!

Lefty diva Barbra Streisand will be receiving a Kennedy Center honor this year.

That means Babs will also be hanging with archenemies George W. Bush at the White Home!

The sitting President always throws a shin dig for the Kennedy Center honorees.

Miz Streisand stated that she’s ‘humbled and thrilled’ to be honored.

She’s a treasure and deserves it.

Congrats!

A new headliner has just been announced for a big Barack Obama fundraiser on September 16th.

Set to preform for the Presidential hopeful is the diva herself, Barbra Streisand, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles.

This is also expected to be Obama’s final visit to raise money before the general election.

The evening will start at 5:00pm with a dinner for about 250 people at a mansion in Beverly Hills.

Tickets will be on sale for the event for the small price of $28,500!!!

Perezzers will not be attending, although we did contribute to his campaign, $28k is a bit too much for us.

Later that evening, Obama will attend the party at the Beverly hotel which will be followed by Streisand’s performance.

It will be co-hosted by the DreamWorks Team (Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen) and will include Andy Spahn, a political consultant.

Tickets for that event are sold separately. They cost only $2,500 per person.

Streisand has been a big supporter for the Democrats. Back in 2000 she sang at a concert for Al Gore and again in 2004 for John Kerry.

This year she even spoke at a fundraiser to support Hillary Clinton, though she then endorsed Obama once he secured the nomination in June.

Babs has even posted a wonderful blog on her official site where she claims Sen. John McCain must think females are stupid.

She writes, “I believe John McCain chose Gov. Palin because he truly believes that women who supported Hillary — an experienced, brilliant, life-long public servant — would vote for him because his Vice President has two x chromosomes. McCain’s selection of Governor Palin is a transparent and irresponsible decision all in the name of trying to win this election.”

She added, “John McCain has served this country. No one in this election is denying him that. But his selection of Governor Palin has demonstrated that he is willing to put his desperation to win this election above the welfare of the American people.”

We’re impressed. We live Babs even more now!

Divalicious Barbra Streisand Sources has donated $5 million to LA’s Cedars-Sinai Medical for a women’s heart education and research program.

FIVE MILLION!

We applaud you, Babs!

Did you know that according to the National Heart Lung and Blook Institute heart disease is the #1 killer of American women?

Babs’ gift will create permanent funding for the Barbra Streisand Women’s Cardiovascular Research and Education at Cedars-Sinai, and the hospital said it would expand research efforts there.

Says Streisand, “Women need to be educated about female cardiovascular disease and the medical community must be propelled toward change. Just like with breast cancer the impetus must come from women themselves striving to become empowered to reduce their risks for heart disease.”

Nice to see celebs put their money where their mouth is. And Barbra has a BIG mouth!

Barbra Streisand Endorses Hillary Clinton
Today I endorsed Hillary Clinton for President. Below is the announcement the Clinton campaign released to the media with my endorsement statement.

Barbra Streisand Endorses Hillary Clinton

Legendary filmmaker, artist, and Democratic activist, Barbra Streisand, today endorsed Hillary Clinton for President. Streisand cited Clinton’s ability to bring about change and the historic nature of her campaign as reasons why she is supporting Hillary’s candidacy.

“Madame President of the United States…it’s an extraordinary thought. We truly are in a momentous time, where a woman’s potential has no limitations,” said Streisand. “Hillary Clinton has already proven to a generation of women that there are no limits for success. She is driven by her passion for public service and her belief in the enormous potential of our country. Smart, capable and strong in her convictions, Hillary has transcended the dictates of what is thought to be possible for our time.

“Hillary is a powerful voice for change as we find our country at an important crossroads. Under her leadership, our country will regain its respect within the global community. She will prioritize issues of global climate change, universal healthcare and rebuilding a strong economy. After 8 long years, the public will once again have faith in their government.

“Another former first lady, Eleanor Roosevelt once wrote, ‘In government, in business, and in the professions there may be a day when women will be looked upon as persons. We are, however, far from that day as yet.’ More than 50 years later ‘that day’ is now upon us…and Hillary Clinton is ready to shatter through that glass ceiling for all women.”

Streisand has been working on behalf of Democratic candidates for over forty years, performing at fundraisers and participating in campaign events. In addition, the Streisand Foundation has raised millions for causes including the environment, women’s equality as well as human and civil rights and liberties.

“I’m honored to have Barbra’s support,” said Clinton. “Barbra has used her immense talent to be an advocate for truth, justice, and fairness and I deeply appreciate her confidence in my candidacy as we work together to change the direction of our nation.”

Barbra Streisand is a singer, theatre and film actress, composer, film producer and director. She has won Oscars for Best Actress and Best Original Song as well as multiple Emmy Awards, Grammy Awards, and Golden Globe Awards. She is considered one of the most commercially and critically successful female entertainers in modern history.”
